Inglorious Junkets!

I took in two movies this weekend, one of them knocked me off my feet and the other did the same, but because I kinda fell asleep. The first one was Friday night. I went to the Chinese theater in Hollywood and saw Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds. The movie was amazing and a tremendous experience! It is something that I hope will be recognized come Oscar time, although if it's not I would not be surprised either since the Academy is run by fools. The film, Basterds, is covered wall to wall with frickn amazing talent and performances. Brad Pitt is the "Star" of the film, but his role is secondary to the more important ones in this film.

Write this name down, Christoph Waltz. He is going to be the next big thing and he is scary in this film! He plays the real villain of this film (even though the film has Hitler), and is intense and child like all at once. On Saturday I did the junket for the film and interviewed BJ Novak, Eli Roth, and Christoph Waltz amongst others, but I still could not get over how great this film is. I hope you thoroughly enjoy it as much as I did as its a cinematic treat.

The other film I saw was Robert Rodriguez's Shorts, which is a kids film through and through. I'm sorry to say that I had a long day before the screening, and I fell asleep in the film for about 2 minutes (power nap), but did enjoy the rest of the film. The high light for me came today (Sunday) when I got to interview Rodriguez himself, along with the film's co-stars Jon Cryer and James Spader, both from Pretty in Pink fame! It was surreal to be speaking to these two as i practically feel like I knew them even if it was via their make believe roles. (I still mark out every now and then). They were pleasant and funny and had some really nice things to say when I asked them about John Hughes and his recent passing. By the end of the day, which today came at around 3pm, I was satisfied with the hotel food, and the two films I took in this weekend, with Basterds making both junket days worth it!
So my quick reviews are as follows....if you have children under 10, SHORTS is for you!! 3 stars!!

If you're an adult and Quentin Tarantino film fan, and appreciate World War II films along with action and really good performances, then INGLORIOUS BASTERDS is for you: 5 stars!!!

Until next time, more later!!
