| Bobby Ryan and Corey Perry Celebrate a Ducks goal!! |
Moving on....so the Ducks beat the Yotes but two Ducks get pounced in the process. Shane Doan is a great player. He would have been even greater had he not choked in last years playoffs. One thing he is notorious for is flattening opponents. Well in last nights Ducks game he railroaded Sexton and Fowler (see them here), momentarily shaking up Sexton, and knocking Fowler out of the game as a precaution. I have two thoughts on the matter. One, Fowler and Sexton should be ready for this type of attention from other NHL'ers. Once these two kids start flying around the rink, sooner or later the opposing team is going to send out the goons to slow them down...so on that note, welcome to the NHL boys!
Secondly, the hits were uncalled for! They were both head shots (more in the case of Sexton than Fowler), and that's a major issue in the NHL and sports in general. Concussions are now shown to be related to ALS, and more athletes are being diagnosed with it than ever before, so this nonsense needs to end now. Doan is a great player that I would take on the Ducks any day of the week, but he needs to be more precise in his checks. Nothing happens by accident.
The NHL gave Doan a 3 games suspension. Is it enough? Maybe. I like the suggestion of another Ducks tweeter that said the person doing the hit, should be able to play only when his victim is able to return. Then maybe the lack of pay will make more of an impression on the knuckleheads taking cheap shots.
Go Ducks!!!
