Game one of the Stanley cup finals is history, and it was a barn burner! Obviously goal tending was not a factor as the final score would reflect, because at one point I thought the team that scores last would be the winner!! The game was action packed and probably one of the more memorable ones in terms of the first game of a series. The flyers were the only team to make a goalie change, and although it did not stop the scoring, the move did seem to calm the players down a bit. Chris Pronger was a huge factor for Philadelphia, dropping bombs from the blue line that would not only wreak havoc on the pipes, but create enough of a free for all for Philly to find the back of the net. The Hawks continued to dazzle everyone with their speed from Kane and Toews, as well as the rat, Bolland! The immense presence of Dustin Byfuglieen was not a necessity as most of Chicago’s goals came from break aways, turn over’s or odd man rushes. The Hawks secret to success in yesterday’s game? Stop the scoring! As soon as the scoring slowed down, the players were able to then play their style of game that brought them success all year long. It was a huge win for Chicago since they have not had much success at home this year, and Philly is looking to at least split the home stand, in order to go home to Philly for some home ice advantage. It is only one game, and if yesterday was a preview of things to come, I think this series could be long, high scoring, seven gamer. Greatest image from yesterday’s game? As the game ended, the jumbo tron in the arena flashed a giant number 3. One down, three more games to the cup!
