Sports Illustrated ran a story about the biggest retirements of 2010 (out of 34 it looks like). Scott Niedermayer was ranked as the fourth biggest, and THE biggest for sure in Hockey. Many things can be said about Scott, and his time as a New Jersey Devil, but I of course prefer to remember him as an Anaheim Ducks. My first introduction to Scott came in 2003 when the then Mighty Ducks were playing in the Stanley Cup finals against the New Jersey Devils. I only knew of Scott's existence, because his brother played on the Ducks. That became the biggest story of the entire series. Brother vs. Brother. Mama Niedermayer was interviewed before each game, and the lines were drawn in the sand, when she stated that she wanted Rob (Ducks) to win the cup because Scott (Devil) already had Cups. So naturally, people were routing for the younger brother to get his cup. Well, history will tell you that things did not quite work out as people had hoped. Scott won another cup, and Rob and the Ducks were devastated. Fast forward to the 2005 season, and who do you think the Ducks sign as a free agent?? Scott. He comes to the Ducks, and in 2007, not only helps the Ducks win the Stanley Cup Championship, but in a touching moment, and breaking form tradition, the first person he hands the cup to on the ice, is none other than his brother Rob, healing the biggest wound in Ducks History and forever solidifying him as not only a class act, but the coolest brother on the planet.
